WIT's trained staff volunteers offer crisis intervention, supportive counseling, needs assessments,
and information and resource referrals to nearly 4,000 callers each year: women who are using alcohol or other drugs,
women calling with issues of domestic violence and substance abuse; women being battered by their same-sex partners;
and callers with general issues such as relationship difficulties, surviving sexual assault or child abuse, depression; or job problems such as sexual harassment and discrimination.
Telephone Counseling is available at : 215-751-1111
Mon-Fri between 9am-5pm
Sat-Sun between 9am-9pm
During an Intake, a woman participates in an interview with a WIT Counselor to determine the extent of her needs, the type of service best suited to meet her needs, and the help she needs to create a personal plan of action with short-term goals.
The signature program of WIT, the Groups are a series of psycho-educational groups which focus on empowerment, education, and healing. The Groups empower women to strengthen their self-confidence and self-esteem, rebuild their lives after being controlled by domestic violence and/or substance abuse, and develop broader life skills. Women form bonds of friendship, reduce their isolation, discuss issues and dynamics of interpersonal violence and alcohol and drug abuse, review their concerns about speaking out about what is happening, and address their fears. Groups include:
S.O.A.A.R. (Survivors of Addiction or Abuse Rising)
R.Y.S.E. (Reclaim Your Self-Esteem)
Embracing Change
Sister Circle
Survivors
Through individual counseling, women are provided the opportunity to work on specific issues or goals which cannot be addressed in a group setting such as exploring ways to implement strategies to reduce anxiety and address fears or to work on self-esteem.
Through life management counseling, women learn to develop survival skills and access community resources such as job training, health care, welfare, and child care.
Integrated into WIT's programs are services for lesbians and bi-sexual women in same-sex abusive relationships.
WIT also provides counseling services to help women stay safe and sober.
WIT's comprehensive Community Education, Advocacy and Training program aims to help prevent domestic violence and substance abuse in the community. WIT provides workshops, trainings, educational presentations, displays of The Clothesline Project and participation in community gatherings and health fairs.
