WIT's Tribute Program
WIT gladly accepts gifts in honor and in memory of important persons in your life.
When you make a contribution of $100 or more in honor of a significant woman in your life, WIT
will place her name on a plaque on the door of one of our Lifeline Peer Support Group rooms:
The Flo Kennedy Conference Room: Advocate Florynce R. Kennedy - lecturer, attorney, and catalyst - was an outspoken advocate for women's rights and
one of the first African-American women to graduate from Columbia University Law School.
In the 1960's, she was a delegate to the Black Power Conference, then took up the battle against sexism and racism by founding the Media Workshop,
the Feminist Party, and the Coalition Against Racism and Sexism.
The Barbara Jordan Room: Stateswoman Barbara Jordan - lawyer, educator, congresswoman - was also a staunch advocate for women's rights.
As an attorney in Texas, Ms. Jordan was involved in the massive voter registration drives that fueled the Kennedy-Johnson civil rights agenda of the 1960s.
As a Democratic U.S. Representative from Texas (the first African-American woman elected to the House from the South), Ms. Jordan
served on the Judiciary Committee which debated President Nixon's impeachment. After she left Congress, she became a professor at the University of Texas'
Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs, teaching political ethics and intergovernmental relations.
The Jane Doe Room: The Jane Doe Room is representative of the countless women who have lost their lives to domestic violence and substance abuse.
To make a donation through the Tribute Program, please include:
