![]() Thank you for your interest in working with us at Women In Transition. Without the work of many dedicated volunteers, including Telephone Counseling Volunteers, Playcare Volunteers and Interns, we would not be able to provide services. WIT provides on-going support to all active volunteers through regular staff supervision, newsletters, meetings, and refresher trainings. Volunteers and staff comprise WIT’s Sisterhood of Support, providing Volunteers with the opportunity to network with other women whose passion and empathy inspires them to work in domestic violence and substance abuse. We work hard to make volunteering at Women In Transition a personally and professionally enriching experience. Telephone Counseling Volunteers WIT's Lifeline telephone counseling line provides supportive counseling and information and referral services to women and men who are endangered by domestic violence and/or substance abuse. WIT relies on a diverse and dedicated corps of Telephone Counseling Volunteers to staff the Lifeline during the week, weekends and on holidays. All prospective Telephone Counseling Volunteers must attend WIT’s 45-Hour Crisis Intervention Training. The classroom sessions, held in our Center City office, are usually scheduled twice a week for eight weeks. WIT seeks Telephone Counseling Volunteers who are able to commit to two or three three-hour shifts a month (days, weekends, or holidays) for at least one year. WIT has the capability to send the Lifeline to Volunteers’ homes as long as they have a home or cell phone number that is "local" to the 215 area code (includes some 610 area codes).
